We all love our televisions! However, it often contradicts to our desire of losing weight. First of all, watching TV while sitting on your couch burns almost zero calories. Losing weight and getting in shape requires us to be active and we have to admit that watching TV is not much of an activity.
Let’s face it, TV has ruled human lives ever since its invention and it’s very likely to rule human lives for many years to come. I can’t blame people for liking TV so much. It is both information and entertainment crammed in a box that can be placed and replaced anywhere in your house. I have yet to see an urban and suburban home without a television set.
To tell you honestly, I even own three sets but I never let it interfere with my quest to be fit.
I won’t even try to convince you to stop watching your favorite shows. Personally, it would take a cataclysmic event to take my concentration away from an episode of House. However, let me point out that there is something productive you can do while in front of the tube. You can get some exercises done while catching up with your favorite episodes. There is no reason for you to gain weight even if you are a TV addict.
Here are some things that you can do:
1. Workout Machines
Exercise machines on TV may have outrageous claims of making you lose fat and in just a few days. Majority of these claims are actually bogus particularly in terms of the results in a certain amount of time they declare. However, keep in mind that many of these things are still capable of giving you a good workout in a convenient manner.
They can easily be set up in any room. In other words, you can still burn those calories while watching CSI.
2. Kettlebells and Dumbbells
These little heavy things can be carried just about anywhere. You can just stand in front of your Plasma and do some bicep curls. You can even do some presses while ogling on some Baywatch reruns. Watching some fit celebs on TV can be highly motivating.
3. Your Body is your Exercise Machine
Bodyweight exercises are all you need to lose weight, get fit, and toned. Squats and push-ups are compound exercises that can boost your metabolism and workout all of your muscle groups. The human body is an amazing fitness machine. Use it!
4. Static Stretching and Yoga Movements
You do not need to execute intense exercise movements to get a good workout. Yoga and static stretches can condition your body to a better physique.
5. TV Watching and Snacking is Big No-No
This last tip is not something that you should do but rather avoid at all costs. Eating in front of the tube is a surefire way of packing on unwanted calories.
